Will Tao
Wei William (Will) Tao is the Principal and Founder of Heron Law Offices, a boutique Canadian immigration, refugee, and administrative law firm based in Burnaby, British Columbia. Called to the Bar in 2015, Will has spent over a decade advocating for newcomers, refugees, and marginalized communities navigating complex systems — driven by a deep commitment to access to justice and community well-being. Will holds a Master of Laws (LLM) from UBC's Allard School of Law, completed in 2025, where his research examined bias, racism, and automated decision-making in immigration — work rooted in his broader concern for equity and inclusion among newcomer and migrant communities.
A recognized community leader, Will has served on the City of Vancouver's Cultural Communities Advisory Committee, the Mayor's Working Group on Immigration, and the City's Historical Discrimination Against People of Chinese Descent Committee. He was selected as a participant in the 2026 Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference, a national program bringing together emerging leaders committed to building healthier, more equitable communities across Canada.
Will is a recipient of multiple Canadian Bar Association awards and has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada. He is a proud father of two daughters.
